2010 Colin Blackhall

The Association’s 2010 Dr Hardie Award went to Colin Blackhall, Managing Director of TLC Potatoes in Banchory. Each year TLC produces disease free mini tubers from over 200,000 tissue culture plants of more than 160 varieties under 2.5 acres of permanent polytunnels. Disease free mini tubers underpin the high health of Scottish seed potatoes and allow the rapid multiplication of high grade seed stocks and new varieties. The production of Scottish seed from healthy mini tubers, over relatively few field generations, is especially important to the potato industry in the face of increasing disease threats from other countries.
